Survivorship and Outcomes Group

The goal of the Survivorship and Outcomes Strategy Group is to develop and implement clinical studies focused on reducing the late toxicities following hematopoietic cell transplantation and cellular therapy in childhood and adolescence and improving the quality of life of survivors. Our work is focused on determining the prevalence of toxicities, identification of risk factors, refinement and creation of surveillance practices and tools, and ultimately the development of preventative and therapeutic interventions.

Examples of the work of the group include the first international consensus conference on the late effects surveillance following transplantation for primary immune deficiencies, inherited bone marrow failure syndromes, and hemoglobinopathies; a multicenter study of late cardiovascular toxicities following transplantation for hematologic malignancies; and the completion of the largest prospective study of late effects following myeloablative conditioning for childhood hematologic malignancies to date.
